Introduction to Inha University Center for International Development Cooperation and Innovation

 Inha university has a variety of in-house activities that you can choose based on your aptitude and interest. Among them, Inha University's International Development Cooperation and Innovation Center, which will be covered in this article, is an organization that conducts various global projects for sustainable development in developing countries. In this article, we will present the center for international development cooperation and innovation and the responses of second generation supporters of the center.

 

Inha University Center for International Development Cooperation and Innovation

 Inha University was founded in 1952 as a project to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the migration of Korean-Americans to Hawaii. It has a history that reflects the etymological history of "Incheon Hawaii University" and the willingness of overseas Koreans to enter the country. Based on Inha university’s origin, the center for International Development Cooperation and Innovation was founded to provide and practice these empirical benefits in developing countries. Inha University's International Development Cooperation Center aims to present development strategies and alternatives to developing countries by developing R&D capabilities and convergence with local communities to a level consistent with the global environment. And this center is based on the university's excellent human resources and research capabilities, and contributes to solutions to global problems.

 

Inha University International Development Cooperation Innovation Center`s current activity

1) KOICA Peru ICT Innovation Entrepreneurship Promotion Project

 Inha University's International Development Cooperation Innovation Center collaborates with the Peruvian Science and Technology Committee to support the strengthening of local incubators and technology transfer departments, and to find and support entrepreneurs and innovative start-ups. Inha University plays a key role in establishing a public technology-based innovation group and developing programs in Peruvian businesses. For this purpose, it develops programs of instructor training, laboratory start-up support, certification systems, and start-up ecosystem networking. Inha University is also responsible for local education, local workshops, laboratory start-up support programs, and the establishment and operation of an advisory system. The Peruvian businesses are expected to boost ICT-based innovative start-ups and strengthen national competitiveness by establishing a startup ecosystem in Peru. The first year project in 2020 was successfully completed, and in 2021, the second year, three universities will be added to the six participating Peruvian universities to expand and operate the project.

2) POSCO E & C Bangladesh Construction Workforce Training Project

 The Inha University International Development Cooperation Innovation Center collaborates with POSCO E & C to provide online functional construction and vocational training to young people in Bangladesh and to conduct employment-linked programs. And the center will carry out a project to train construction personnel in Matabari, Bangladesh, along with POSCO Construction and POSCO 1% Sharing Foundation. The purpose of the project is to provide employment and income growth opportunities for the vulnerable people through vocational construction education in Bangladesh's Matabari area. This will enable the development of skilled construction functional deployment, job creation for young people, income growth for local residents, and revitalization of the local economy. Inha University's Center for International Development Cooperation and Innovation provides online training and field training, free education, certificates, and job opportunities for young Bangladeshi people. As a result,  Yu Hongseong(director of Inha university center for international cooperation and innovation) won the POSCO Corporate Citizens' Awards for his project in December 2020. The project was largely in line with the goals of poverty reduction and quality education among the objectives of Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs).

Supporters of Inha University International Development Cooperation Center

 Inha University students who are interested in the field of international development cooperation, and those who can participate in the launch ceremony can be official supporters of the center. The duration of activities is approximately three to four months. The 2nd generation supporters' activities were from March 2021 to June 2021.

 Only those who pass the first e-mail document application round and also the second round of e-mail application will be selected as official supporters. The support takes the form of the issuance of letters of appointment and certificates of completion in the name of the head of the center, international development cooperation education and career lectures, and activities related to development cooperation such as KOICA/NGO.

 Cards news and center promotion contents related to international development cooperation and SDGs are produced twice a month and posted on SNS. Supporters need to share how they feel about their monthly activities once a month and leave feedback on past activities. In addition, the activities are done by organizing an ODA study group for students. ODA study members study their parts every week, summarize the contents in a Word file, and present their activity through Zoom. The following paragraphs contain the previous supporters activities: 1st generation supporters participated in the Newborn Hat Knitting Project hosted by Save the Children as well as writing online posts and performing supporters activities in various ways.

 First-term supporters donated hats directly to newborns in danger of dying of hypothermia to create a society where they live together. The following is a description of the team formation and activities of the current 2nd generation supporters. There were 13 supporters. Based on their interests, GO-VENGERS, GOT7 and ODA ODA were the three teams. GO-VENGERS is mainly responsible for governance, maintaining the development cooperation environment and educational news, while ODA Onda is mainly responsible for development cooperation and ODA (public development assistance) parts. In its latest content in April, GO-VENGERS produced card news telling of the non-democratic governance formed in Myanmar by military coups. According to Card News produced by the GO-VENGERS team, Myanmar's military, which disobeyed the result of the general elections, detained the president and key figures. The most controversial case in Myanmar is human rights abuses, in which many citizens are being tortured by the military's hard-line response to the spreading protests. Western countries have imposed military sanctions on Myanmar. South Korea is also trying to respond to Myanmar's situation in the international community, including a resurgence of Myanmar's ODA. GO-VENGERS team members expressed their solidarity for the peace and human rights of citizens who resist in spite of pain, and expressed their wish for Myanmar's spring.

 How do you feel about the activities of the Inha University Center for International Development and Cooperation and Innovation?

 The 1st and 2nd supporters of Inha University's International Development Cooperation Innovation Center left their thoughts on their activities as follows.

- "It was a beneficial experience that made me confident and have conviction about my career path."

"I was able to hear from field staff what it was like to work in the field of international development cooperation, and my understanding of this field increased through ODA study."

Duridurizo, a former supporter of the first generation, said, "I thought about a newborn baby who would wear this hat while I was making it, so I finished it quickly. At the end of the year, I was so happy that my heart was warmed up by the warm wool hat."

"Thanks to the supporters, we were able to promote the importance of center activities and international development cooperation online, and I think it will be a big force for the growth of the center in the future," said one young professional.

"It was so sad that we couldn't experience more diverse activities due to Covid-19 restrictions on face-to-face activities."

"It was good to experience content production and career counseling through supporters' activities, so I would like to recommend it to people around me if the next supporters proceed."

 

 Supporters' activities at Inha University's Center for International Development Cooperation and Innovation included various education and career lectures as well as international development cooperation and campaign card news production activities related to SDGs. This is a good program for many people to pay attention to and support through this article. Because it is a college student activity that is very helpful to Inha people, particularly those who are interested in corporate social contribution and international development cooperation.
